Bethesda announces Creation Club
New system to purchase content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE
Bethesda have announced Creation Club, which is set to offer brand new content for both Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. Supported on PC, Xbox One and PS4, all content in the Creation Club is created either by Bethesda, outside studios, or the best community creators. New weapons, apparel, locations, gameplay, and even characters will be added to the Creation Club. Existing mods will not be part of this system, as all content must be built from scratch with a full development cycle. The content will go through an approval process, from concept to final release, and be supported across a range of languages, where applicable.
Gamers can access this new content by purchasing credits on the corresponding marketplace, and use those credits to buy any content across both Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. Credits will be available for purchase on PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam.
Considering all the content on the system is new, it will probably take a few weeks or months before there is actual content to buy in Creation Club. Right now only two games will be supported, but new games from Bethesda might incorporate the same system.
In April 2015, Bethesda and Valve implemented paid mods for Skyrim that was widely criticised and removed after only a few days operation. Creation Club appears to be the result of the feedback from that failed system, as it now involves a more stringent QA process and does not allow to pre-existing mods to be sold.
