Licensing rights for Overkill's The Walking Dead in question
Future of the game in jeopardy as the license revoke request is received
Skybound, the rightsholder of the OVERKILL’s The Waling Dead title (OTWD), has received a notice of termination regarding the license agreement with publisher Starbreeze.
Starbreeze and Skybound say they are in conversation, trying to reach a solution. Starbreeze has been informed that the game has been removed from Steam, and should Starbreeze and Skybound not reach a solution, it would mean that the game will not be made available for sale again.
This also means that the yet-unreleased console versions of the game would also be cancelled.
Sales related to OTWD amounted to SEK 34.1 million (USD 3.61 million) in the fourth quarter 2018. Costs related to development of OTWD has so far exceeded revenue.
Inspired by the universe of Robert Kirkman’s original graphic novels, Overkill's The Walking Dead is a four-player co-op multiplayer FPS action game set in Washington, D.C.
