Double Fine joins Microsoft
Indie developer joins growing list
Double Fine are now part of Microsoft. Publisher Starbreeze has signed over the Psychonauts 2 publishing rights to Microsoft. The indie studio behind Broken Age and Brutal Legend joins 14 other studios that make up the Xbox Game Studios brand.
Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studio, said “At the root of every game is an emphasis on creating crazy worlds with originality, story and fun. That commitment to creating a unique, player-centric experience is what drew us to the studio, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we create together.”
Double Fine are currently working on Psychonauts 2, which they partially crowd-funded a few years ago. It involves a young psychic, Razputin Aquato, that has realized his lifelong dream of joining the international psychic espionage organization known as the Psychonauts! Raz must use his powers to stop a mole before they execute a secret plan. The game is due out in 2020 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
