Ubisoft to shut down The Crew 1
Original racing game from 2014 will be retired
Nearly a decade after its launch, online racing game The Crew is being retired by publisher Ubisoft.
In a blog post, the company confirms that The Crew 1, including all its editions, and virtual currency packs, has already been delisted from all online stores. Players who ordered The Crew recently can check the refund policy of the store of their purchase if they wish to receive a refund.
The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024, for all existing owners. After this date, the servers will be shut down, which means that the game will not be accessible on any platform.
The Crew launched in 2014, as a debut for developers Ivory Tower. It featured an incredible open world and decent RPG mechanics, but was absolutely crushed to death by a collection of poor design choices and terrible technical issues, as outlined in our original The Crew review.
The franchise persevered, and in 2018 The Crew 2 was released, though with similarly meddling results. Most recently, things have finally turned for the better with 2023's The Crew Motorfest.
