Steam Workshop to support Skyrim
Upcoming Creation Kit for the popular RPG to include Steam Workshop feature set
Bethesda Game Studios has detailed future plans for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, including customization support.
Beginning in January, PC players will be able to download for free the same development tools used at Bethesda Game Studios to create Skyrim. In tandem with the Creation Kit’s release, a new Wiki and videos will be released to help players learn the kit.
Bethesda has also been working closely with Valve to integrate Steam Workshop into the Creation Kit. Using the Workshop, free user content can be easily downloaded. The Creation Kit will bundle user mods and upload them to the Workshop, where everyone can browse, rate, and flag mods for download. Users will be able to do this from any web device, including a smartphone. Like a live queue, when you fire up Skyrim, mods you flagged will be automatically downloaded and installed.
There will be also an incremental update for Skyrim next week. It will likely be up on PC first, and then hit PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the week. Among other things, the update will fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the newly discovered backwards flying dragon glitch.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is in stores now for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
