BioWare announces Shadow Realms
Four player co-op action RPG against a player-controlled Shadowlord
Bioware have revealed their latest project today at Gamescom. It’s called Shadow Realms and it is an online cooperative action role playing game that has four players moving through dungeons avoiding traps and battling monsters. Players assume one of six classes, from warrior to warlock. While human players fight through hordes of nasty creatures, a player-controlled Shadowlord does their best to stop them. The Shadowlord can set traps, summon monsters and even control some of those monsters in third person. Both the Shadowlord and Human characters have customization and progression systems.
The core design behind the new game is taken from older tabletop RPGs which had a Dungeon Master. The campaign will be an episodic, so expect a gradual release of content. BioWare want to incorporate player feedback into the game design as they progress. Some players will gain access to a closed alpha in the coming months if they are selected. If you wish you register for the upcoming Alpha, head to the website at www.shadowrealms.com. The only platform announced so far is the PC. There is no word on pricing yet either, so it remains to be seen whether it will be F2P or a standard retail model. Given the structure of the game, and the absence of a preorder option, the former appears more likely.
